The weather conditions along the Finnish coast are observed at 38 coastal weather stations, making marine weather reports an integral part of navigation in the region and throughout the Baltic Sea. Harmaja island, situated off the coast of Helsinki, where a lighthouse has stood since the 18th century, now also houses a coastal weather station. The album 'Harmaja' draws its inspiration from the Baltic Sea, much like its predecessor, 'Shallow Waters'.
Just as coastal weather stations sit at the edge of land and sea, capturing the nuances of ever-changing weather patterns, picking up the subtle shifts in temperature, wind, and humidity, the music of this album acts as a sonic observer. Perched on the borderlands between music and atmosphere, it tunes into the subtle fluctuations of sound, weaving together ethereal textures and sonic landscapes that rise, drift and evolve, mirroring the rhythmic flow of the tides.
